How does Mentorly's mentor matching work?
Program managers choose the profile questions that count for matching, such as skills, goals or industry, and give each one a weight. Mentorly scores every mentor and mentee pair on those answers, then proposes stable pairs that respect each mentor's capacity. Administrators preview the proposed pairs, approve, adjust or override them, and only then activate them. The scoring is a transparent set of rules the administrator controls, not a machine learning model.
What criteria does Mentorly use to match mentors and mentees?
Any profile question with set choices can be used for matching: skills and expertise, career goals, industry experience, department, location, language, or criteria the program administrator defines. Each question has a weight and an ideal overlap, so a program can prioritize skills alignment for technical mentoring or other criteria for inclusion programs. Matches can also be limited to people who share a tag, such as a department or a cohort.
Can administrators override suggested matches?
Yes. Mentorly's matching system is designed to assist program administrators, not replace them. After the algorithm proposes pairs, administrators can review each suggested pairing, approve matches they agree with, manually reassign participants, or create custom matches based on their own knowledge. Proposed pairs stay as drafts until an administrator activates them, so nobody is notified of a match the administrator has not approved.
